Review: 2018 Range Rover Evoque

Performance and Fuel Economy

Ingenium engines are newly developed to maximize performance while reducing environmental impact. The 2018 Evoque comes equipped standard with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 237 horsepower and 251 lb-ft of torque. You also have the option to upgrade to a variant that has an uprated turbocharger, bringing horsepower to 286 and torque to 295 lb-ft. Base engines will get you from zero to 60 in 6.9 seconds, while the upgrade has a zero-to-60 time of 6 seconds. Both options offer full-time all-wheel drive.

Both options are mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission that gives you the best possible fuel economy, as well as optimal performance on the road. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the Evoque’s base engine gets 22 MPG city and 29 MPG highway, while the 286-horsepower option gets 21 MPG city and 29 MPG  highway.

Comfort and Convenience

Trims include the SE, SE Premium, HSE, HSE Dynamic, Landmark Edition, and Autobiography. Most trims are available as five-door models only; convertible trims include the SE Dynamic and HSE Dynamic.

SE trims come standard with grained leather seating, a 12-way power fronts seats, and the option for heated front and rear seats, while the SE Premium adds perforated grained leather seats and seat-position memory. Upper trims may feature perforated Windsor leather seating, full Windsor leather interior, heated and cooled front seats, and 14-way front seats with memory and massage. You also have the option for a heated, perforated leather steering wheel.

Interior features include automatic climate control with air filtration, proximity sensing for overhead lighting, Cabin Air Quality Sensor, ambient interior lighting, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. For your convenience, the Evoque also features the HomeLink garage door opener and a powered gesture tailgate.

Entertainment and Technology

The 2018 Evoque is equipped standard with the Touch infotainment system, which includes the Land Rover Sound System with eight speakers, an 8-inch touchscreen display, a Navigation System, and InControl Apps so you can connect to your smartphone. The Touch Pro adds a 10-inch touchscreen, Meridian Sound System with 10 speakers and subwoofer, Voice Recognition, DVD player, Navigation Pro, Remote app, and Pro Services, including a Wi-Fi hotspot, Route Planner, Share ETA, and more.

Standard driver assistance technology includes front and rear parking aids and a Rear View Camera. Available safety tech includes a Surround Camera System, Park Assist, a 360-degree Parking Aid, Blind Spot Monitor with Reverse Traffic Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control with Intelligent Emergency Braking, Lake Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Driver Condition Monitor, and Traffic Sign Recognition.
